Our special Furry Pals: Although each of these animals have an outcome, there are still bills to be paid... Please consider making a donation towards their care.
Precious Matilda was rescued from MCAS with a broken leg! X-rays revealed that Matilda's leg might be able to be saved so a splint was put on her little leg. After many x-rays and NINE long weeks, Matilda was finally cleared for adoption! One week later and Matilda was adopted by the most wonderful family! Yay! We are SO going to miss you sweet girl!

MCAS' snow was simply not strong enough to survive. Rest in peace sweet angel. Snow suffered from starvation
Arrow was rescued from MCAS with chemical burns on his back. We have seen and rescued several dogs this past year and a half with chemical (mainly acid) burns throughout their little bodies. Luckily, Arrow healed beautifully and has since been adopted! His new name is Wicket! Love it!

Sydney was rescued from MCAS in horrible pain. She was unable to walk. Upon further examination and x-rays, it was determined that she suffered from horendous hip dysplasia that neither hip will stay in place. The clinic was amazed that Sydney had made it this far for her age. Sydney finally rests comfortably. Rest in peace sweet Sydney.
Kodiak was rescued from Barc, the Houston city shelter on July 8th. He weighs 69 lbs so imagine what he will end up weighing when he's fully fattened up! He is extremely loving despite the fact that Kodiak has clearly been the victim of neglect abuse. He likes both men and women and likes kids. Kodiak will undergo surgery for his neck where an embedded collar was found and removed. As you see, the embedded collar left quite a nasty mess on Kodiak's neck. ** ADOPTED!!

Meet Purdy, a female Min Poodle. She suffered from a broken ankle. Purdy has already had her surgery where pins where placed in her leg to hold the fractured bones in place. Now, Purdy has been ordered cage rest and we are waiting to see if this procedure will work. Should it not work due to the break being too severe, Purdy will have to have her leg amputated. UPDATE: Purdy's leg was unable to heal and had to be amputated.
UPDATE: Now adopted!
Why we do what we do. Meet Momma and her two babies, Gin and Juice. All three were scheduled to be put to sleep due to their condition. How pathetic is that. Momma (later re-named Nadide) was thankfully rescued by Anatolian Rescue and Furry Pals took in her two babies where they were immediately placed in isolation for a few weeks. They were treated for mange and now live very happy lives with their new families. Juice was adopted by the mother of the lady who adopted Gin! The girls will now grow up to actually know one another. By far, one of our happiest stories. Thank you J Malik for your hard work and dedication to making sure that these beautiful angels were transported safely to rescue. This is a happy story made possible by you. Best of luck Gin and Juice, we will miss you both!
BEFORE (on the day of rescue):
Meet Coconut. We found Coconut on the floor of one of the kennel runs at BARC (the local Houston shelter). Coconut was very pale, grey gums and very lathergic. He was in tremendous pain. We rushed him over to BCAC Dr Lejeune where she immediately placed him on fluids. He was shaved down so that we could identify the extent of his injuries. Clearly, Coconut had been attacked by another animal. He underwent immediate surgery and tubes have been stratigically placed to drain infection from his body. He is now in the process of recovering and not a happy camper. Who would be! Please consider helping with his medical expenses!! Coconut will need a foster home once released from the vet's care. UPDATE: ADOPTED!
Meet Pumkin. Pumkin was found on the side of the road almost dead. Dr Lejeune immediately went to work on this angel baby and he is slowly pulling through. He is not out of the woods yet! Maggets were found on his body as he had been left for dead. It will take time and lots of TLC but we're rooting for Pumkin to pull through with flying colors. Please consider donating towards his vetting bills. Needless to say, it will be high. *** UPDATE: Sadly, Pumkin passed away and lost his battle. Rest in peace Pumkin and thank you Dr. Lejeune for trying so !hard to save him. Furry Pals LOVES you

MCAS' Matt was rescued in such horrible shape that he lost his battle for his life. Rest in Peace Matt.
Little Josh was attacked by a pitbull. While rushing him to the vet's, we prayed that he wouldn't die on the way. Thank goodness he held on. Dr Lejeune took over and worked her vetting magic. Josh suffered deep gashes and wounds with collapsed lungs. After a couple of weeks of critical care, Josh pulled through. He is our angel baby Josh today! Yay Josh!!! *** ADOPTED!
Meet sweet Zoey! Zoey was found running the streets with a horribly injured eye. When questioning people from the area, it was discovered that some jerk had made it a game to try to run over the stray dog on a daily basis!!! Zoey has now undergone a third eyelid temporary surgery and will remain in this condition for the following two weeks. After two weeks, Dr. Lejeune will remove the stitches and device to see if this will do the trick. If not, Zoey's eye will need to be removed completely. Zoey suffered from a blunt trauma to the head such as hit by a car. So, we believe that Zoey was most likely hit by a car. As of right now, Zoey does not have a foster home. If interested in adopting or fostering this angel, please contact us. *** ADOPTED
<-- AFTER

Sergeant was rescued from MCAS and broke my heart. Ever so polite, Sergeant wagged his tail at me in hopes of rescue. Sergeant will be with us for a while recovering from this horrible abuse and neglect. Please consider donating towards his recovery, boarding and food. If you're interested in fostering Sergeant during his recovery, please contact us! Sergeant is calm, loving and extremely grateful to have been rescued. UPDATE: Sadly, Sergeant lost his battle. Rest in peace Sergeant as you so deserved a better life.
Delilah was rescued from a local kill shelter and dropped off as a stray. Delilah has a really big hernia on her belly which will require immediate surgery. Delilah is a loving 5 yr old Yorkshire Terrier. She's so sweet and loves people. ** ADOPTED!

"That's why they call him Thumper!!". "THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!" is all I hear when Thumper runs or walks through the house these days! Thumper was rescued from MCAS with a cast on his rear left leg. According to our vet, this cast had been on there for at least 6 or 7 months! This meant, loss of muscle mass. Upon further x-rays, we found out that Thumper had been shot several times which explained why he wobbled on two legs only! He had been shot in the hind leg and twice in the front right paw!!! So, off came the cast on the left rear leg and on came the cast on the right from leg! Poor, poor Thumper! To boot, Thumper came down with horrible pneumonia and had to undergo breathing treatments. Now, he is fully recovered and loves life! Thumper is getting his second cast place on April 6th and then it will be removed permanently in a couple of weeks after this. If interested in adopting Thumper, please click on the adoption tab. Thumper is a happy and healthy 1 yr old pure Schnauzer with natural ears and a cropped tail. LOVES to play, play, play! Amazing what forgiving souls our Furry Pals have! Update

This loving and sweet puppy was in ICU for several days. His little belly was in so much pain. He was treated symptomatically but it was not working. An exploratory surgery was done to see what the problem was and Dr. LeJeune found it to be Intussuception which is a part of the intestine had folded into another section of intestine. An emergency surgery was done and 24 inches of his smaller intestines were removed. Sadly, a few inches of the intestines had already entered his colon. Sadly, Fluffy passed a couple of days after the surgery. It was too late for this little fellow. He will be missed. We love you Fluffy, rest peacefully.
On January 8, 2010, Furry Pals took in over 20 animals from a busted puppy mill from Henderson, Texas. Sadly, they were not in the best condition as to be expected. Two of them were laid to rest as we feel that their conditions were too far past a normal recovery. The Yorkshire Terriers suffered a tremendous amount of hair loss as a result of flea infestation, however, it is important to remember that the hair will grow back. They all received dental work and were all fully vetted. Furry Pals incured a huge vetting bill for these precious animals and we need your financial support. We still have quite a few of these animals but slowly, they are being adopted into wonderful loving homes. Here are a few pictures of them:

This is Chief. Chief was rescued from a local kill shelter and found to be very high heartworm positive. All of his vetting was done and Chief was placed in a foster to adopt home where he happily worked on gaining back some weight. Now that several weeks have passed, we need help getting this big boy heartworm treated. His treatment will cost approximately $300 and it needs to get done. Won't you consider helping this handsome gentle giant?
Bentley is a very handsome Labradoodle which is a mix of a labrador retriever and a standard poodle! What a dream combination! Bentley weighs about 55 lbs and is now fully grown. We anticipate him to be about 9 to 10 months old. Sadly, Bentley's previous turned him over to us because she was unable to financial afford an FHO (Femoral Head Osteotomy) surgery that Bentley needed. The procedure exposes the head section of the femur bone (the ball of the ball and socket joint), and then the head is removed. Unlike most other hip surgeries, the head of the femur is not replaced, but is allowed to heal and develop its own fibrous scar tissue so that the joint is no longer bone−to-bone, a pseudoarthrosis (also called a "false joint"). Bentley's surgery was perfomed on November 17th and NO funds have been raised yet so we are in the hole! **ADOPTED!!!
PC was rescued from a local kill shelter and it was discovered upon an examination that he suffered from a gross deformity with his back left leg as seen in the above picture. It didn't look so bad until we began to watch him. PC was not able to use his leg at all as he everytime he touched the ground with it, he would whimper in pain. We played with the leg and PC became "snappy", it hurt him to have touched. Sadly, not much could be done except for an amputation. Sugery was performed at Barker Cypress Animal Clinic on November 17th. NO funds have been raised yet to pay for this surgery so we are in the hole on this one too! *** ADOPTED!!
Toto is an adorable Yorkie / Terrier mix. He is about 10 months old and was rescued from a local kill shelter, MCAS. Sadly, we found Toto stuck in a kennel run being stepped on by the other dogs that were much bigger. We immediately noticed that something was wrong with him and rushed him over to the vet's office. We were shocked to find out that Toto's leg was completely shattered and had to be removed as soon as possible in order to prevent further damage and pain. His leg is scheduled to be amputated Thursday October 22nd. Toto is about 8 lbs and fully grown. Such a sweet baby who will shower you with kisses. We are very grateful to have found him and are pleased to offer him the help he so rightfully deserves. PLEASE consider donating towards his medical expenses. ADOPTED!
Candy is a 12 lb Pug mix female that was brought into our vet's clinic on or about October 15th. The person dropping her off said that he saw her getting hit by a car and didn't have the money to pay for her. Of course, being the wonderful person that she is, Dr. LeJeune took in this sweet little girl and began working on her right away. After x-rays, it was determined that Candy suffered from a broken pelvis and is now in the recovery stage. She will need cage rest for the following several weeks and then a nice loving home to provide the loving that she so rightfully deserves. She is heartworm negative, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, de-flea'd and spayed. *** ADOPTED!!

Yoyo is a 13 week old pure Japanese Chin. He was dumped by a breeder because something was "wrong" with his leg! After reviewing x-rays, it was found that Yoyo suffered from a fractured & shattered front right leg. Yoyo's leg needs to be amputated. Surgery is scheduled to be performed on Thursday Sept 17th.Yoyo is sweet, playful and so deserving of a wonderful home! He may have had a rough start at life, but his personality will show you nothing but love and kisses!

Elsa was rescued from BARC with many issues! She is a 4 year old Boston Terrier and weighs about 15 lbs. Someone shot her left the eye with a pellet gun and sadly, it had to be removed. Elsa suffered from a huge mass on her left side that required additional surgery.
She was dehydrated and emaciated. She is now on the road to recovery. *** ADOPTED!!! ***
Hunter is a 5 month old Lab mix puppy ready to find his new forever loving home! Hunter was brought into BARC looking like this! According to our wonderful vet (Dr. LeJeune of Barker Cypress Animal Clinic), someone poured acid all over his back. This is another animal cruelty case! Hunter has been treated on numerous occasions for the burns and received several skin scrapings and antibiotics. He is now recovering in a loving foster home! Surprisingly, Hunter loves people and just wants to please! ** ADOPTED!
