Furry Pals recently (Jan 9th) took in 37 dogs of which 20 were from a busted puppy mill. We received a phone call that 20 puppy dogs were being held in Henderson, Texas and that they were going to spend the night outside if not picked up by rescue. This was the night of the big hard freeze. FPR hired a driver and picked up all of the puppy mill dogs. At 2 am, we met the driver and took in 12 Yorkshire Terriers, 5 Toy Poodles and 3 Min Schnauzers. Sadly, two had to be put to sleep for medical reasons. As you can imagine, puppy mill dogs are not in good shape. They are kept at the mills in cages for one purpose only and that is to breed them. They are not considered pets and of course are not vetted. They came to us with lots of missing hair caused by flea infestation. Their nails were horribly long, ALL had earmites and all but two are in need of dentals. On Friday (Jan 9th), FPR vetted all 37 dogs and incurred a bill of $2,000! ALL dogs were treated/administered for the following this past Friday:

     * distemper/parvo 7 in one combo vaccine
     * bordatella vaccine
     * rabies vaccine
     * de-flea'd
     * fecal tested (float and smear)
     * de-wormed with virbantel if fecal was positive
     * administered a heartgard
     * heartworm tested
     * extensively examined
     * treated for earmites (accerax)
     * treated for ear infections
     * skin scraped and treated for skin infections

Luckily, only 2 tested positive for heartworms and we were so excited about this! BUT, we need your help. The $2,000 covered only the above. ALL of the dogs (but two) still need to be spayed or neutered and have their dentals done. We cannot ignore the dentals as their teeth are in horrible shape but have potential with the proper cleaning and extracting of rotted teeth. I am enclosing some pictures of some of the dogs to share with you. I have now bathed (medically) all dogs and groomed all but three of the Yorkies. Some do not require much grooming as they have lost so much hair.

PLEASE consider donating to these very high vet bills and some VERY special furry pals in need. These angels did nothing to deserve this horrible lifestyle and I am personally very excited to get them into good loving homes. Home visits will be done for each and everyone of these special puppy mill dogs to ensure the best possible home. This will entail gas as well. Please share and post far and wide.
